Eames

Experimental Lounge Chair is a prototype lounge chair designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1944 during their pioneering research into molded plywood furniture. Developed as an exploration of organic form and advanced plywood-bending techniques, the chair was never put into mass production but became an important milestone in the evolution of modern furniture design.

The design features sculptural molded plywood surfaces flowing seamlessly between seat, backrest, and arms, supported by a lightweight tubular steel base. Created during the same experimental period that led to the iconic Eames Plywood Chair and Lounge Chair Wood (LCW), the project demonstrates the Eameses’ pursuit of comfort, structural efficiency, and organic modernism.

Today, the Experimental Lounge Chair is regarded as a rare and influential design study that helped define the future language of mid-century modern furniture.
